Either you run the day or the day runs you.
Jim Rohn

In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take, relationships we were afraid to have and the decisions we waited too long to make. Don’t waste a single moment (Unknown)

What is time management?

Good time management may be compared to going on a journey. Ideally and hopefully you know your starting point and your destination and all the stops along the way.

Time management techniques

In coaching for better time management I use a wide variety of techniques, models and practical exercises, such as using a Time Log to discover your current use of time, the ABC system of creating priorities, the Salami system of dealing with the overwhelming, and using weekly and yearly planners.

During coaching you can not only acquire new skills & practices but apply them there and then to your paper mountains and overflowing tasks to feel more in control of your time…and hence, your life. Coaching enables you to discover & discard your key misuses of time and create new patterns and positive practices.

Thank you for all the kindness you have shown. I am determined to be organised and not procrastinate so that I can live a fuller & more productive, value-creating life (London client)

"Have nothing in your house you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful" (William Morris). Paper & other clutter may prevent you starting altogether on new tasks or distract you, causing you to butterfly from one thing to another. Make space for your thoughts and actions. Leave a clear desk, place and space at the end of each day to make a new start for the next. Allocate a regular slot in the week to clear out the old & make way for the new.

People and priorities

Sometimes people get in the way of managing time. They interrupt or make demands, telling you everything is urgent!
Here, it’s important to combine time management techniques with the skills of assertiveness if you are to manage your own priorities.

Work life balance

Time management coaching also helps you create that important yet elusive work-life balance.
In the words of George Bernard Shaw: "We don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing."

Five tips for today

- Don’t delay: do the most important tasks first
- Beware of chaotic piles: put your papers away where they belong
- Avoid the battle of the bulge! For each new piece of paper, remove at least one
- Overwhelmed by a giant task? Divide it into tiny, manageable slices
- Don’t lose track: make a daily to-do-list – and follow it
