At this time of year there are many Disney productions on stage and screen. They may serve as food for thought or lighten your day.
They also contain a good deal of emotion and emotional intelligence and there are some wonderful messages in the words of Disney characters to hold on to for the future.
Here are three of them.
“You’re never too old to be young.”
—Happy, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
This optimistic quote is a message to keep living life to the fullest. You cannot halt or slow down the ageing process; however, you can control at least to some degree how you approach it.
How can you do this?
a) Keep youthful in outlook. While there may be good reason to mainly looking longingly at the past, take time to do things for yourself that you enjoy.
b) Spend time with others whose company and presence is important to you.
c) Of course, you cannot control everything, external factors that affect those we love or if you become unwell yourself. But keeping fit, engaging in interests, taking special holidays, and widening your social circle can all contribute to the enjoyment of life and keeping ‘youthful’.
“You must be imaginative, strong-hearted. You must try things that may not work, and you must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from.”
—Chef Gusteau, Ratatouille
This motivational quote encourages you to embrace the freedom to allow your imagination to flourish.
How can you do this?
a) You will need the courage to express it whether at work or personally, in your interests and pursuits. Others may not have your imagination or be able to see what you put out there and it may take courage to say it to the world.
b) Sometimes ideas and plans don’t work; it may be necessary to test the water and try again. There is nothing new without risk; there is also nothing new without courage and persistence.
c) You may need to be resilient. Others may doubt you, make assumptions about you because of your background, age or experience. Believe in yourself and your ability to achieve what you know you can do.
“Your identity is your most valuable possession. Protect it.”
—Elastigirl, The Incredibles
This quote is brief but profound. The values you espouse, your sense of self and who you are, are so important to protect. Do not allow yourself to be pushed or manipulated into behaving in ways that do not fit well with you.
How can you do this?
a) Others may try to shape what you feel, think and do. Hold on to your uniqueness and be sure that if you do bend under pressure to what others want from you, that you believe it’s best and have taken that decision based on careful thought and with integrity.
b) Be ready to explain to others what is important to you, what you stand for and what does not fit with you.
c) It isn’t easy to stand up for what you feel and think and want to do when others want something different from you. However, by doing so you will strengthen your confidence and self-esteem and your ability to meet challenges in the future.
